One of NALMA's main objectives is to raise the professional standards for First Nations Lands Management. NALMA is committed to taking a leadership role in ensuring that Lands Managers receive adequate training opportunities required to efficiently and effectively manage their lands. As such, NALMA is pleased to offer a Professional Lands Management Certification Program (PLMCP) that will meet the current needs of First Nation Lands Managers.

Professional Lands Management Certification Program (PLMCP)
NALMA is pleased to offer a Professional Lands Management Certification Program (PLMCP) that will meet the needs of First Nation lands management. PLMCP has two levels of certification:

Level One: Post Secondary Training

Level One Training is delivered by the University of Saskatchewan through The Indigenous Peoples Resource Management (IPRM) Program. The IPRMP was created by the University of Saskatchewan in consultation with AANDC (INAC) and NALMA.

IPRMP is designed to provide Land Managers with the necessary training to examine the basic environmental, legal and economic aspects of land management.

Upon completion of this program, the student will obtain an IPRMP Certificate, which is achieved by completing all six IPRM degree-credit courses, while attaining a minimum 60% overall average throughout the Program.

and

Level Two: Technical Training developed and delivered by NALMA

The second level of NALMA's technical training consists of three components delivered by the NALMA Professional Development Unit over a twelve-month period:

1. Six one-week technical development modules, delivered in 6 sessions throughout a 12 month period
2. Completion of thirty-seven hours work experience in First Nations Lands Management
3. Completion of final exams which address the six technical development modules

A substantial amount of time and effort on the part of the student is required to successfully complete this program. All courses will contain aspects of communication and organization through computer skills, time management, research, and project and office management that will benefit students in their workplace.

Unlike a conference or workshop, NALMA's Level Two technical training certification courses are considered as university-level credit courses that may be transferable to other institutions and universities in Canada.
